Anyone using a Little Giant external pump?

Anyone using a external Little Giant pump like the 4 MDQX?

Just wonder how good they are and if the are quiet?

Thanks

I have been using one for almost 2 years (LG 4MDSX) and love it. Of course I use it to return water from my sump in the basement, so I cant hear it at all by the display tank upstairs.

Some people will tell you that they are noisey pumps but even when I am down in the basement, the water running in the sump and my protein skimmer create way more noise.

They also tend to run warm (even hot) to the touch, but I asked the manufacturer and they said that was normal. Besides, all pumps create heat and I would rather have it go into the motor housing and into the air then into the water.

I ran one for two days.

"Honey, that's WAY too loud."

I agreed.

Poseidon P4 fixed that. Little Giant was a stronger pump, IMO, but too noisey for my taste.

I ran one for many years. From the basement to feed a 75G. Great pump for the price. I now switched over to the sequence pumps.

I run an md3 pump on my skimmer its strong/reliable , I was a bit reluctant to puchase it, but have been happy and would buy another one in the future. Its "medium" loud.

have a 3mdqx sc been running in my stand no problem for a year now, and I got it used with the tank.
use a mousepad and suspend it, and its not noisy, if its mounted on hard surface its loud.

They are ok pumps they have been out there for years. Some of them need to be oiled every six months. They are a bit nosiey. I have had a 5md for a few years now and it is still chugging along. I now have it running as my circulation pump on my 2x105gal poly saltwater mixing tanks.

They do work reliably. I have to say that the #1 drawback is a bit of noise. Mine was screwed to a 2x4 with rubber in between. This sits on the floor between the wall and the stand. Most sounds are caused by vibration if anything is touching it. I keep a foam shroud arround my PVC so that it doesn't vibrate against the wood or glass which works great.

I've yet to hear of a ~ perfect~ pump but I'm sure there are better pumps out there.
