Crab ID please
I've checked Melev's but didn't see anything close. Any ideas?
 I've lost a couple of smaller gobies and never found their bodies (2 neons and one hector's) and I am trying to find the reason. Based on the size of the claws, I'm thinking he might be it. If he grabbed a tail, I don't know if they could get away. Legs and all a little bigger than a half dollar piece. |

not sure what kind it is but it is bad.
black pointed claws = bad. time to put him in the sump.

Except I don't have a sump...I'll take him to the lfs tomorrow. Unless someone can tell me he is a good guy with a positive id. I was thinking along the same lines though. I don't think you need claws that big to eat dead things or algae.

it kind of looks like a porcelain crab, but im not sure since ive never had a porcelain crab.
and im too lazy to research whether or not porcelain crabs are good or bad. but i agree with you, if it has huge claws theyre probably not meant for eating little bits of algae. this is just some random picture i found when i googled "porcelain crab" http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/0104/porcelain_crab.jpg actually now that i look at both pictures, they look pretty alike. same mouth like structure, same antennae structure, same body structure.. the only thing that is different is the color. |

Looks like a porcelain crab to me also. Porcelain crabs filter food from the water and have fan like appendages near their mouths. They are reef safe and I love mine.
