It all depends on how much you are feeding - not necessarily how often.

Feed only what your fish can consume in a matter of minutes.

Most of us overfeed. Its not 'ok' but as long as your tank parameters are in check and your critters look healthy I wouldnt worry too much.

also, throw some meat in there. They are on a vegan diet besides the flake/pellet.

diversity is key. buy some frozen foods.

Well, I'm not an expert on the subject but I would think that alot of us who run mixed reefs tend to underfeed. I think this occurs because we try our best to keep nutrient poor water.

I am working on having a large population of Anthias and Tilefish in my new setup so I will have to feed multiple times per day.

I think there are two things you need to keep track of:
1. What types of fish you have and what are their feeding habits
2. Watch your nitrate levels when you feed and adjust accordingly to keep them as low as possible.

I would try smaller feedings two or three times per day it should be less strain on your system and keep the fish happier.

Again, Im no expert but this is what I have gathered from research

I feed flake daily x 2, brine 3 x 4 a week, frozen every other day for the inverts and brittle stars and then mix in some blood worms and krill 3x 4 weekly. As long as the food does not sink to the bottom and just lie there or unless your water quality is poor I would not worry about it.

I feed 5 times a day not including 2 Nori clips that always have Nori from morning to lights out. I feed a mix of pellet, flake, blood worm, frozen mysis and frozen squid. I add garlic to my flake. I change up the frozen from time to time. I make sure that I do not add to much at each feeding. Parameters are good. I think most people under feed.
