Do you notice a brown/orange residue floating on the surface when mixing this brand ,or left in the mixing container ,

I use it, but my LFS mixes it. The start with RO and I buy it 10 gallons weekly.

i have no experience this and i've made atleast 100 gallons. what are you using for a mixing container? I use a thoroughly cleaned 44 gallon brute trash can. Some containers are not safe to be used and can leach off chemicals or other materials.

I've not seen this, been using the salt for well over a year now. Are you positive nothing is contaminating your mixing container?

I've noticed both.

I originally had a residual crust on the rim of the mixing container & what seemed like diatoms on low flow areas on the sandbed. This was when I had just switched salts & has since gone away after multiple WC's.

Hmmm, when you put it like that Lagger I start to wonder. I've been seeing increased diatom growth lately, but hadn't considered the possibility of it being related to my salt. Did you switch salt brands?

I dont use it but I have heard of this before. Red Sea seems to have quality control trouble. I use 50/50 coral life and tropic marine pro reef

Well, I continue to use Red Sea Coral Pro & it's gone away, same bucket. So I doubt WC is an issue, although I did shake the bucket prior to use for consistancy. Usually diatoms like that are associated with old bulbs, but mine's new.

I attribute it to the initial switch from Reef Crystals to Red Sea. I suggest doing a few more large & frequent WC's & it should go away.
