What I dont understand is: How many things does he plan on plugging in to run the tank? He has 40 outlets not counting the 2 Coralife timer strips.

half of the outlets go to the indicator lights. every GFCI has 2 plugs in it, one goes to the indicator light and the other gets equipment plugged in. So if a GFCI trips only one item loses power, and he'll know about it because the indicator light will go out. So he only has half as many available plugs than it looks like.

Thanks for the explanation. Regardless, 20+ outlets?

I'm putting together a 120 and i have 24 outlets, you can never have too many. First of all he said he wants to have a half a dozen heaters, whether we agree or not theres 6 plugs right there. for me, 2 pumps, 2 heaters, protein skimmer, ATO pump, fuge light, 4 plugs for lighting, frag tank light, 2 cooling fans. Thats 14 right there, not to mention things i forgot, and upgrades. I'd rather have too many than run out.

some people don't seem to understand the reasoning behind the multiple heaters,
Jgarrison has said multiple times that the tank (or atleast the sump) will be in an unheated room of his house. Since he lives in a colder climate he wants to have several heaters as backups. How about we all quite trying to put a guy down for doing what he thinks is right (and safe for that matter) and start supporting him. Looks good man I hope my build ends up going as well as yours

I agree with the previous objections to the siphon overflow. Mine has been the source of numerous problems over the last couple years. I have stripped my tank down and am currently installing an overflow box so that I can throw my hang-on overflow off a bridge.
Also, I'm glad that I'm not the only one whose build is taking FOREVER. |

Noted: I thought about this already. I had 2 of them running before for 2 years with no problems except for when my girlfriend pulled out the U tube I am going to do another water test and if I have any concerns I will drill the tank. I have to repeat my water test because my old rio pump broke. Do not buy them after about 2 years they fail. |

Yeah, Rios are pretty worthless. I used a CPR overflow with the aqualifter pump and it seemed like the aqualifter was the weak link. It came disconnected twice and flooded my living room.

Im sorry to say but all those GfCIs make it look like the car from Knight Rider. Can the tank talk to you too?

Cool project, some details to work out, but very interesting to follow.
Have you considered a surge tank. I hear they can really make a display come alive. I'd try to set one up, but I don't have your ambition.

I have but one question:
With all the various heaters, $!K+ in filtration, etc - have you run another 100 amp circuit into your home to power this? By the way...I live in a four story house with two tanks, we don't have that many outlets in the whole house - my girlfriend counted... |

I know this thread is full of negative and somewhat immature criticisms, but you really do need to evaluate this setup. Its going to burn your house down one day.

jgarrison -
When your tank is set up for display will the sump and electrical box be right next to it, or will it be remotely located? |
