Pipes or hose?
Hi.
iŽm setting up a sump, is it better to use pipes to lead the water from the sump to the tank then to use a hose?

depends on your application. I have a sump in the basement that pumps up to the dining room. So the water has to go through the floor and into the sump (which is not directly under the tank, it is about a foot off center from the tank above in the dining room) so i used flexible nylon reinforced hose rather than messing with a bunch of elbows and PVC pipe. If it is a straight shot to your sump, you should use PVC. Just depends on what is easier for you.

If you are only coming from under the tank, ie sump is in the stand, and you don't need a crazy amount of flow, many people feel that hoses are better as they will cut down on vibration noise dramatically. Also, you will be ablt to be much less precise in measuring your plumbing.

hard pvc is far more durable in the long term use but hose(nylon) causes less restriction due to there being no bends ........What I think the best is flexibel pvc/jacuzzi hose...its very durable you can cut it glue it and it's flexible...You pay more for it but you get the best of both worlds;.)

Yes, clear vinyl tubing anywhere that will be exposed to light. That is, unless you like the look of algae growing inside your plumbing.

Will a normal garden hose work?

If you want to use normal garden hose make sure it's a white and blue drinking water approved hose. The green ones can leech chemicals into your water.

if it has chemicals in it they could leech for a long time (like life of the hose)
