I got my HD special order bulb today. It is the correct TCP 5100k 19w par 38 bulb I ordered. Turns out UPS shipped it to 4336 maple, I live on 4436 maple. My neighbor from down the block delivered my bulb to my house for me.

Can any1 who has the bulb read me the number on the base. I see 9P919 Model EDXR-38-19 blah blah then V#42836. And i have the 19w btw. Lower on the socket it says 460401. Any1 got a match and know what color this bulb is? It has produced exposive growth compared to another compact fluorescent of equal wattage and even to a plant growth bulb but i dont think it is the 5100k.

Home depot here in Philadelphia has a plethora of these bulbs at $9.97 each.

Must have been a mistake, but I just bought a 2-pack for $12.99!

I have the same bulb I'm not sure if this is the original recommended bulb or not but my cheato sure seems to like it. I have two of them set up on each side of my fuge and in the past 7 days my 2 sandwich bags full of cheato has become one ball nearly the size of a 5g water jug. Great bulbs!

I figured an updated image of the lights being used over the new refugium under my tank would be nice. Originally I'd planned on 4, but I may end up with 3 bulbs. As you can see, it is only set up with 2 at the moment, but the sump has only been running for 2 days.

That light seems much whiter than mine. I thought macro algae liked a more yellow spectrum.

It is the 5100K bulb that this thread is about. The yellow bulb is 2700K. For more info, take a look at this page, and be sure to scroll to the bottom for all the updated information.

I've used both, and currently use the 5100K for the past 6 months. I've also used a 6500K bulb with decent results in the past.

What, are you telling me you don't want to read this entire 40 page thread?

Okay, let me save you some time. Go with the 5100K because it works well in my experience.

HAHA

I HAVE read the entire post...each word of it. I am also one of those million hits on your site...its bookmarked.

I suppose I am one of those types always looking ot improve on what I have, regardless of what it costs or what I have to do to get there.

I will stick with this bulb for now, but thanks to your site, I know where to turn if things arent working out for me!

I did decide on chaeto, however!

Always looking to improve...I guess thats why plastic surgery is a career plan!

Marc, I see you are growing mangroves ... how is the light for them?
I have only a few mangroves left (out of 17) that used to thrive in my sump, but after moving, the've been living in a bucket with tap water...and dying off to about 4. Not much space in my sump, but was wondering if the light is sufficient, as I think the only way they can survive is with tank water!

Vince, the lights seems to be just fine for mangroves. This is what seems to occur though:

If the plant grows too tall and touches the bulb, the leaves burn off. This has happened a couple of times, even though the bulb isn't that warm to the touch. When I turn off the sump during tank feedings, they would float up a little too high and touch the bulb. That always annoyed me.

If the plant grows too tall to where it is away from the light source now, it will suddenly die.

So if you can control those two things, I believe it will work out just fine. Out of the 9 mangroves I currently own, only one is open with pretty leaves. Another one has never budded, and the other 7 are new and have black tips still. I don't know if they will ever open up. I need to go re-read Anthony Calfo's article about mangroves to see what more I can learn.

I looked on the Home Depot website for the 5100K bulb using the model number listed on the first page of this post, but couldn't find it. Do I actually have to call a store to special order it??

Thanks

I'm guessing 2.

My fuge section has an area of about 12x14 and one light seems to cover it nicely. With yours I'd suggest two. And if it ends up that you only needed one...well you have a spare!

Thanks for recommending this bulb Melev. Been using one for about 6 months and its working great. I saw this thread when I first started my tank so it was my one and only light so far on my fuge. Here is a pic of the 30 gal fuge under my 120. The macro algae is so dense cant see through the tank.

Actually, I just bought two packages. One to put in my floodlights outdoors. And one to HOPEFULLY use for my refugium.

I am going to call the company tomorrow and get more information. Here are the details I know so far.

Generally, they seem to be almost identical in labelling as the others. All the same stuff about lasting for years, the picture of four regular floodlights, etc. Here is the rest.

Manufacturer: FEC
Phone # 1-866-326-2852.
Item # 75316
Model # LBP18PAR2 (also seen LBP18PAR36)

I assume the PAR2 and PAR36 indicate count. 2 per package or 36 per box.

Item Name: Bright Effects Weatherproof 75W Replacement
Energy Used: 18W
Equivalent to: 75W
Light Output: 950 Lumens
Average Life: 8,000 Hours

And one of the best parts, they are sold 2 for 12.98. At 6.49 a bulb, you can't beat that!

Manufacturer Address:
FEC
4901 Gregg Road
Pico Rivera, CA 90660

UPC: 0 17801 99578 7

I will post color temperature if I can track it down.

Paul, that is intensity, not packaging. Spectrum is what you want to find out, and they should have it.
