I got my sedra 3500 and its unbelievable what an improvement it makes. I mean i was pulling out nasty gunk already and it was caked about half an inch thick (literally no joke) on the riser tube when i cleaned it today. But with this new pump the bubbles are SUPER fine and its silent and the foam circulates all the way up the body and downwards again cuz theyre so fine. It will be pulling out the nastiest stuff imaginable soon. This pump really makes a friggin improvement. To find out where i got it go to my thread and look a page back to see. Its the word that is edited out but spelled thru hyphens or what not a million times...aw heck ill do it again

www.t-r-a-n-s-f-ish-supplies.com (just take out all the hypens).

Are these skimmers for smaller tanks? I was thinking of making a DIY skimmer. But I have a 75 gallon tank.

Picture of my easy as pie skimmer after 24 hours in a lightly populated 75 gallon tank.

I can't find these rubbermaid containers anywhere here in Dallas. Can anyone help me that knows where I can find or even order online if I have to. I have all other parts.

Ok, I'm thinking about redoing my collection cup, and use a glass jar with the bottom cut off, and if I can find a 2 inch glass bottle long enough make my risor tube out of glass. The walmart quart container keeps bending when I try to really scrub this thing clean. My current risor tube is a clear shampoo bottle I cut the top and bottom off of, it works great, but is very flimsy.

BTW, walmart carries some fisher peanuts that are in a almost 2 quart jar, with the right top. It makes a pretty good collection cup, it's bigger around than the quart jar, and holds more gunk.

This may have already been covered but can this skimmer somehow be modified to use out of a sump or fuge (hang on tank)? Thank you so much guys.

Freestanding version

Yes, Yes, Yes,......
I made a freestanding version. I put the poweryhead with pinwheel conversion inside the gallon jug. An Aquaclear 802 fits well. The inlet is from another pump in the sump.
Works great. The pump inside is only to inject air and tubulance.

I see lots of PVC in those little pictures but i cant really make it out. If you plan to use a gallon walmart jug and a 4" pvc fitting then no it is not safe. It may be done with a lot of silicone but it is far from safe enough to recommend to some1. I tried making an out of sump skimmer with these plans and a ton of ppl's help for a couple months and no you can not do it safely long term. It will inevitably leak on the 4" to 1g container joint. Maybe if you get some special weld-on that joins plastic and pvc you might get something slightly safer but even then if the container bends under the weight it will spring a leak.

So the PVC-made venturi is on the intake of the pump or on the output?

Restricting the input of a pump doesnt damage it?
