What type of Home Depot pipes can I use?

I heard ABS pipes are not suitable for saltwater...what else???

I need a part for my DIY skimma and all I could find was one that was made out of "poly comb" the person at the store said it is not good for saltwater...

is that true?? what is 'Poly Comb" it looked just like the grey coloured PVC they also had on the shelf...

What ELSE is not good for saltwater use??

Zach.

I would use the regular schedule 40 PVC....ABS is used for drain lines containing harsh chemicals...I do not know its composition but Sched 40 would be fine

cool....thanks.

but this 'poly comb' thing, is it OK?? ......it's just not as hard or dense as those other grey pvc fittings I see some people use in their reef tanks.

also, i've never heard of 'poly comb' pvc (i'm not even sure if it is PVC), but it's grey in colour like some other PVC pieces i've seen being used.....

i don't know what to do...i really need this part, but because it says 'poly comb' I have no idea if it's safe to use...

The Grey PVC pipe is something I'd stay away from using anywhere where you don't want leaks. There are Multi-million or maybe even billion dollar law suits against the manufacturer of the raw materials thats used to make that stuff BECAUSE it leaks. Shell was the company that was making it at first but when the trouble came about the little plant that makes the raw materials changed hands several times and has finally moved over seas.
Just a little info for ya.

I think that grey pipe is poly beutalane pipe not poly vinyl(PVC) pipe that had/has all the problems. The grey PVC should be fine if it is made for pressure.

You can't go wrong with good ole schedule 40 PVC it has been proven to not harm the tank and not to leak. I always stick with what works.
