LR life...

After a month now of having LR in my tank from a LFS I noticed a starfish about the size of my pinky nail,my question is this,
What other kinda of life will come from the LR? Or is this something that can't be answered due to it being different everytime? The starfish is to small to even know what kind it is all I can see for now is he has some kinda of fur (or maybe its algea on him)...

There are many things that could come out of the rock but nothing is for sure. There some baby serpant stars that could appear, pods.... Any number of things.

Bingo. It's easy to list common stuff, but impossible to list specifics. Most of the common stuff isn't really even well identified, usually - people use generic terms like "pods" to cover a wide range of possible micro-life.

You may get more. I'm not sure of their technical name but I have them too.

Again, it's more or less impossible for us to predict what will happen in your tank with any degree of accuracy.

Search for asterina stars. They are one of the most common small stars that hitch hike in on rock. They don't get much bigger than a dime, and can have 6-7 legs, but usually less because they multiply by splitting. Yes, it's possible that you will get an army, but it's very rare they will cause any harm.

It well could be, as of now ive got 200+ in my 75, none larger than a pencil eraser

Edit: It's believed by some that Asterina stars eat coralline algae, but i have no idea if this is true.

A word of warning: even in aquaria the hatching rate of Asterina gibbosa eggs can be quite high, your tank could be overrun with tiny starlets!

Yikes...that can't be good huh???

Yes, some species will eat coralline, and there are some that eat corals, but most don't have any noticable effect on our aquariums.

Coralline is the hard, brightly colored stuff (usually purple, pink and red) that covers your LR. Sometimes with new rock it takes a while to get good coverage of it.
