for the record the coral looks a little bit different under VHO and the coral is not exactly the same the polyps when open are more spaced apart.

I believe he means it is extinct in the wild, and only kept alive in captivity

Not to be rude but I have tons of that in my tank. I’m talking about 5 pieces that are over 10". Is this actually rare or are there a few types of green nepthea?

it's rare in the wild and has several different closely related species that are also in captivity

I've seen people mistake finger leather for nepthea
finger leather is very similar, but less neon green.

weaver will do
Nepthea is a genus kinda like colimorph (mushrooms) under the umbrella if nepthea are several species .. This is the same one that Tom at TRS had in his corner display. The coral is extinct in the wild and only found in captivity. Brian

It is a very hardy coral. I got a piece the size of a dime and accidentally severed it in half. It's now doing really well...

hardy until the temperature gets to high ... which to my understanding is why it is extinct in the wild.!

**** DISCLAIMER **** FOR ALL INTENSIVE PURPOSES THIS CORAL CAME FROM A PART OF THE WORLD WHERE THERE IS A DECENT AMOUNT OF FARMING, BUT FOR SOME REASON THERE ARE NO LONGER COMING OUT OF THE OCEAN AND NONE OF THE WHOLESALERS ARE CAPABLE OF GETTING THEM ANY LONGER. AS TO IF THE CORAL IS TRULY EXTINCT IN THE WILD I DONT KNOW FOR 100% BUT IT IS NO LONGER BEING IMPORTED ******************

Are you going to the NJ frag swap? I am interested in a piece. I don't really want to pay shipping for one little frag.

I know what you meant. Some people just like to get on others nerves for no apparent reason. The fact remains that this particular coral is "EXTREMELY RARE" in the wild or in captivity in most areas. I have seen frags of this go for well over $100
Extinct- very well could be in the wild, it has been years since divers have seen this at all. I would bet that you are as accurate as you could have been.

So, I'm wondering, are all the green nepthia variations rare or just the super green ones? The one I have is not super green mostly because of lack of lighting, but it's not as green as what's in the picture...which could be a little photoshopped .

I understand what you mean!
The term Nepthea is a genus the genus itself I don't believe is extinct or endangered but some are
