these are cool tanks...im willing to go up to 5 no higher though

do you guys have a hard time keeping the surface of the water clean from film and such

hell yeah. Nanos kinda suck. There is no space, and if you add things like surface skimmers, you have to give up valuable space. My advice is to go with a custom nano. DIY is your best friend for nano reefs.

For the livestock I have 1 tiny Astrea sp. snail, PomPom Xenia, and 5 copepods. Had a Tang but it jumped. Here's a FTS:

The fun thing about custom is that anything is possible. I've seen people use like 1" acrylic to make a nano, check out some of the tanks at nano reef website.
