Is this a normal place for a crab to hang out?
I just thought it was interesting to find him here, now it's even more interesting that he won't leave.
I assume he's some sort of Emerald Crab, but he came as a hitchhiker. Does he need to be removed or can this be his home? |

I have had emerald crabs that did the same thing. I never noticed that they did any direct damage other than possibly iritating the coral. IMO, no need for concern really, just kind of annoying.

consider yourself lucky, you just saved 5-6 bucks. looks to be an emerald crab. mine do that everyonce in awhile. he'll likely find a home elsewhere in your tank. great for the clean up crew.

Since last year, I don't trust emeralds with my SPS. With two separate crabs, I found them both in that same position eating the bright color coralites off a couple of my prized acros. They definitely weren't starving as there was algae to eat in the tank. Needless to say, they were both banished to my refugium.

I have two blue-legged hermit crabs that do the same thing. They seem to like perching on top of SPS corals and hanging out.

if i ever see any of my hermits hanging off my SPS they will ALL go to the sump. It bugs me when they do that... just like when my cleaner shrimp kept picking at all my corals for food.
