Topping off
Hello I have had my 34 gallon Red Sea Max up and running for about 6 days now and my water level is dropping from evaporation. From what I have read on the forums adding saltwater to top off is a no no and I should be using R/O water? Can I use drinking water just to bring up the line an inch or so? Reason being I will not be able to get R/O water tomorrow and my tank seems to need a high level of water to stay happy.
Thanks in advance. |

If you have a dechlorinator, that might be safe, depending on the quality of the tapwater. I'd get some distilled water or wait a day, personally.

If you really have to, bottled drinking water should be ok.

if its bottled then it can be used as a temporary fix, but I wouldn't rely on it.

Everything I have read says distilled is preferred over drinking water. If you use saltwater to top off your tank you will raise your salinity. When the water evaporates, the salt stays behind.
