bioballs in the overflow box?
has anyone done this?
does it work to have bio balls in the overflowbox or does it somewhat clog the overflow |

I would guess that you would trap a lot of detris and it would turn in to a problem for you later. Bio-balls are really meant to be exposed to air (one reason that they work well in turning poo in to nitrates, but not able to finish the process due to the requirement of anaerobic bacteria). Also most filter systems that use bio-balls have some sort of pre-filter to catch stuff before the bio-balls. Maybe you have something different in mind? BTW I have read threads about turning the overflow box (AGA mega-flow tanks) in to DSB, but I don't remember how it worked out in the end. Good luck.
