Remove fish to quarantine... There really is no "early" stage that you can attach a label too. It is sort of the chicken or the egg thing. If you have visible ich, you likely have the cysts in the tank as well.

Hypo or copper for the fish (must be done in quarantine tank and are the ONLY 2 PROVEN methods to eliminate the parasite)
8 weeks of no fish in the display as well

I am having a bout with ICK right now. It spreads fast. Get on it quick.I found signs of it on Friday and started moving fish out of my display and this morning it killed one of my 2 allardi clowns. I think the other is going to make it he looks alot better tonight and even ate some tonight.
