which tank size for 1x150W HQI + 2x24W T5 (25"6)?
Hi all,
Recently i bought this 1x150W HQi + 2x24W T5 lamp (22"6) for a reasonable price on ebay. The HQi is 10000 K and the T5 are 20000 K I want to set up a nano reef with it and have a tank custom made for this purpose that is somewhat cubical (As a european i don't have access to many of those ready made tanks all you american guys are using). now as being a noob to nano reefs, my question is : Which tank size and measurements would be ideal for this lamp? I've been thinking about keeping softies, zoanthids and the occasional clam on the sessile invertebrate side of things. As far as filtration is concerned I want to run it with the tunze nano reefpack 200 (Nano DOC Skimmer 9002 & Nano Cleaner 3165) and lots of live rock. As for pump (i want to use a tunze nanostream) and thermometer (Jaeger) wattage, that would depend on which tank size you might suggest. Any ideas what would be appropriate? Advice would be much appreciated1x150W HQi + 2x24W T5 lamp (22"6) Last edited by krusty23; 12/03/2007 at 06:40 AM. |

You probably can run this light on a 24x24x20, I have a 250 HQI with 2 24watts T5 on my 24 cube.

If ran 26x24x20" for my 150W HQI + 2x24W T5, I could keep light craving organisms like stony corals and clams, correct?
If I made my aquarium any deeper, say 26x24x24, I would get a zone of less intense lighting at the bottom, right? Couldn't I probably use this zone for organisms that crave less lighting, or does that not work out? Or would the tank look plain stupid? |

It will work, the reason I went with a 250 is that I want to keep anything anywhere.

Your plans will work. Wonder who the manufacturer is for your new fixture.

This light looks very similar to the fixture being sold by xsorb2007 on ebay.
Are you pleased with the light? What type of ballast does it have, is it separate from the fixture? |

I found out about the manufacturer. It's a chinese company called Sunsun. Anybody got experience with their products?
Are they decent, or did i get a pile of crap? anyway here's the link to the catalog page of the manufacturer. dan3949: couldn't find that username on ebay though (bought it on german ebay). Could you provide me with a link? Anyway i'll let you know what they are like, when i get my system up and running. |

That is the same fixture. I did buy it and have it up and running.
The seller on ebay is xsord2007. The link is: ebay link for 24" MH I had a little problem with one of the T5 sockets. It was loose and one bulb did not work. I bent the contacts in the socket to allow better contact with the bulb and now everything is working fine. I like the fixture so far. I also have found little to information on the light. At this point, I consider it a good buy and a better deal than the Odyssey MH light (a popular cheap MH light). |
