Stock NanoCube6

Hey guys I have a Nanocube 6 gallon which i would like to add some lps to if possible.. What LPS would survive with the stock lighting which is 18 watt 50/50, and it also has 106 Gph of flow.. I would like hardy corals which if possible do not need to be fed directly much..I like Torch Corals BTW, so lemme know if there functional

you could go to nanocustoms.com (or something like that) and upgrade your lights. Thats what I did to my JBJ6. I've got all LPS (torch, frogspawn, bubble, galaxea, and hammer) in mine. The upgrade will give you 56w with 3 18w bulbs. 1 10k, 1 50/50, and 1 actinic.

If you dont do the upgrade, I dont think you have enough light.

Wait till you upgrade to get LPS then. I know you can offset the inadequate lighting by feeding but 18 watts is nothing. Just wait till you upgrade they'd be much happier with more lighting.

This is 18 watts over a six gallon tank, a portion of one gallon of which is sump. You could do hammer, Fox (they love low light low flow and are goreous), and many other LPS. I don't think 3.X watts per gallon is low light. You cant do SPS or clam.

Go to nano-reef.com and check out the nano cube contest. They are using 6 gallon versions, and the ones that say stock have no mods.

watts per gallon means nothing. Its about light intensity. You very well might be able to keep them but will be happier with a little more light. Just make sure you feed fairly regular to compensate.

Never go by watts per gallon. Huge misunderstanding with this hobby.

Yeah, and PC's are more then intense enough for a lot of LPS.

I'm currently keeping small frags of caulastrea and blasto. wellsi near the top of my stock nc6, and some kind of maze brain on the substrate. All are doing well, with occasional target feeding, particularly to the caulastrea and blasto.

Fishmaster1000 i'm not sure if I understand your statement above about "lights" per gallon??? It's wats per gallon and NO that means nothing. Check out waterkeepers thread about lighting. It is a great read and will answer many of not all your questions about lighting. I'll restate what I said above. You could very well keep them but they will be happier with higher lighting. And as apex003 said feeding helps alot.

There is a fox coral thread on here that I started a while back in the LPS forum, search for it.

Also to clerify, it has to do with BOTH intesnsity and WPG (WATTS PER GALLON). We have estabilished the intensity by knowing that PC bulbs are being used, so now we look at the WPG.

While 3 won't let you keep all LPS corals, and while some may color up a little different when you add more PC lighting, it certainly is sufficient for a lot of corals.

I kept a hammer in a mini-bow 5 under 10 Watts of light. It grew new banches, it thrived, it was awesome. It did however get a little more green once kept under other light.

I knew it was watts per gallon, i guess i was just out of it when it was typed.. Well my tank is arriving tomorrow, and ill get it setup.. The first corals which will be put in it are going to be zoanthids, and ricordea...Of course not right away.. Then I'll add some lower light demanding Lps
