easy coral?

What would be a good coral for a begginer to start with? Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this... still kinda new here.

Start out with some mushrooms or leather corals.

I agree... most mushrooms are very easy to care for. I'd suggest some Ricordea floridas, since you can grow them out and trade them for better corals. Just avoid Ricordea yumas for now. They're a lot trickier.

Green Star Polyps are easy too. Also inexpensive, and usually can be purchased from a local reefer pretty cheap. Out of all my soft corals, the GSP seems to draw the most attention to the tank from friends and relatives who know nothing about the hobby.

Ok, so, most of the corals posted here are very easy and very pretty, but I must caution you to be careful and select pretty specimens. Once you get your feet wet, and get all adjusted/set in what you're doing, some of these species can really take over! Like the GSP! Just be prepared to frag or move colonies to their own "island."

That, and don't freak out if your first colony tanks it and melts down. Some corals can come back after a melt down, like most Xenias.

Yes, just keep it trimmed, once the GSP starts outgrowing the rock its on, tear some off. I've never had a problem. It won't grow super fast that you can't get to it in time. Just make sure it is not in contact with another rock. There are however some other soft corals like Kenya Tree that will frag themselves.

Colt coral was my first one. It's almost doubled in size and I just got it four months ago. I also just have a dual T-5 light strip, nothing fancy. Can't go wrong with this coral.
