another question
i am interested in having a reef tank. should i start with live rock and then add coral later. can i have rock and coral together

corals are highly sensitive invertabrates and should be one of the last items added to the tank. Wait until after the tank cycles at the minimum. Preferably waiting until after all appropriate equpiment is purchased, skimmer, lighting, circulation pumps, ect. ect. Letting the tank mature a little first isn't a bad idea either but not absolutely neccessary, depending on the species you wish to keep.
So yeah, get the live rock way before you put any livestock in the tank. And yes, you'll need rock with corals. They gotta attach to something. Besides, the live rock IS your biological filter in a reef tank.
