Question Hermit Crabs, Eating sponges?

I have a few blue leg hermit crabs, and a few red leg scarlets. In with a red tree sponge. The crabs really dont mess with the sponge. They climb on it but to me they dont look like they are eating it. I guess my question is are these crabs going to be safe later on in my reef.

Thanks
