Breading pepermint shrimp?

is any one out there breading pep. shrimp?

I have 5, 4of wich are curently carying eggs. I just got the book (how to rais & train pepermint shrimp)wich makes it sound fairly straight forward.

The only fish I've raised are convict chiclids and mollies. Am I in over my head?

I've done lots of searches and can't come up with much pratical advise.

So what I am looking for is any advise that might save this adventure before I even start. Any general advice for a begining breeder?

Its a fun venture and a good challenge. It will take awhile before you get one to make it past all the critical molts. I found you needed enriched rotifers to really make a difference in early survival. I would use a algae paste to enrich and grow rotifers. The book is alot of help. Water quality is important. The collector works well.

I collected some fry wensday night unfortunatly I was not ready for them. I released aprox. 100 them in my fuge It is full of " litle bugs" ranging in size from 1/2 bbs to full grown pods.I doubt they will make it but they are still alive today.

The logical order would be:Mollies-Cichlids-Clownfish.But if ornamental shrimp is your thing,Peppermints are the perfect choice. They are the easiest to raise!

I caught my second batch tonight about an hour after lights out. I am guessing about a hundred including two that survived in the tank from the previous hatch. my bbs is set to hatch sometime tomorow.(hope its soon enough) I might run my colector in my fuge to try to harvest the tinny bbs sized pods to help with the food lag.

I start with rotifers then freshly hatched BS(the shrimp ). add cyclopseze as soon as you can see that they are eating a small "sampling" and up the age of the BS. enriched BS holds more punch so over feed your BS algae not yeast.

I dont like using algae pastes with shrimp, ive seen a clear difference in results with vs without algae pastes. it might only be an apearance of a difference or might not but there is some vague and un collected writen material also stating a difference in results. and as I see it, you should not try to complicate things.

I also dont like flake food, its much harder to keep the water clean when filteration is limited.

I prefere to raise all my fish/inverts in filtered tanks, using external filtration, a few gph turnover and a large fine filter screen with bubbles in front of it works fine, just let the junk rot but get the nasty water out asap. when they get a little older you can step up the flow thru and worry about junk removal. plus a 1/4" ID acrylic or butyrate tube works nice as a tip to a DIY syphon tube made from airline hose for clean ups.
