High Temperature

I have a 120g and a 20g sump which I just started recently. The problem is, my temperature is at 84.5F and I know it is rather high. I have 4x powerheads, mag12, euroreef skimmer, and 1x MH running. Why is my temp so high, how dangerous is it, and what can I do to bring it down without pruchasing a chiller?

What is the rooms ambient temp?

84.5 seems high for this time of year. What wattage is the halide?

Fans will help, but you do not seem to be running enough stuff for such a spike. Check your pumps for overheating.

Get some Icecap fans if you have a closed canopy, maybe a household clip on for your sump. You could reduce the temperature a degree or two by replacing the Mag pump with an Eheim or other high quality unit.

10.5 degrees is a lot IMO. 5 or 6 degrees would be normal IMO/IME. Check the pumps for one that's overheating.

84.5 is not above the acceptable range, however the summer temps will get you up to 90. Some fans directed at the suface will help with evaporative cooling.

Try putting a fan over your sump. Also, check out this info before you get too carried away.

I believe you could lower the temp if you went with an external pump versus the Mag 12. My Mag 5 on my skimmer is good for 2 - 3 degrees.

Do you use glass covers? If so the removing them or even opening them up a bit will help keep things cool.
