you know it.

anyways.. lets recap what iv learned so far
1... have your ac unit plugged in and preset to 83 degrees justincase you get a hot day
2... dumb people and an outside topoff switch dont mix
either use Auto top off or keep the top off hose out of the tank cause some terd will have to turn the thing on!!!!
3. corals dont like halides 6 inches above them after they have been in your display for a year
all is good. rather loose some stuff now then later

I have a question about the mh's. You are using 6.5 K right? Can you expect good growth from these units, like is it the ideal light-temp? I've set up a frag tank myself and was told 10K was the best..

I have heard when people go up on light power that they do it gradually by time.

Nah,they stopped letting anyone deemed commercial post pictures a few years ago.

Take it as a compliment that now you are a professional hobbyist.

ahh i guess i wont post picts. but any ways

just built a manifold with 3 rotating sprinkler heads on them

i tried 3 brands and desided on one called k somthing. you got to remove all the metal parts. i left one metal spring in each one because it is hard to get to but it is small and made of steel so im not worried about it at all

only thing that i dont like is the flow from the mag 9.5 is really wide throu these and dosnt move much water besides close to the output.. then again the outputs are partway out of water and when submerged compleatly they seem to move alot more.

i think im going to add 2 or 3 more sprinklers and then add a mag 24 or 36 to this set up

also my ac unit quit.. i opened it up and fixed it.. ( a wire corroded thru on the capacitor. ) thankfully the problom was right ontop and not burried in the bottom of the unit lol

I am worried on my build. I have my return for my home on the inside of my sump room. I was going to move it to outside the room to protect my ac. Then I was thinking I didn't need to.

Was your ac trouble due to the salt water?

It still sucks you cant post pics..............

yes ac probloms was due to salt water ( or canadian product made in china... take your pick)
anyways the connections on teh capacitor burnt up.and corroded.. fast fix.. ac works now... adn i moved it further from teh prop tanks and hard plumbed the air outlet line cause it works better and looks better and will be easier to wrap in foam later to reduce hte heat added back to teh room by the pipe

ATTR, what type of A/C unit is it? Wall unit, mini split? And how long was it running. I've been keeping a close eye on any corrosion from the salt and haven't found anything on any of my equipment.

Thanks dude

Oh ok, my house as well as my garage has vaulted ceilings so my A/C is up away from the tank (it's controlled via a remote)

Hey ATTR, since this is a no more pics site ( ) than maybe I could stop by some time to see your setup. The invite goes for you as well dude.

Thanks dude

ok after getting a lil help from the guys in the diy section i found a energy saving idea ( since ac is costing 100 bucks a month and dosnt do me much good!!!)

i am installing a 200 cfm exaust fan ( or two) in to the attic ALONG WITH!!! a differential temp controller ( type used with solar heaters to decide if the heating coil is hotter then hte pool)

except ill do things in reverse and have it turn the fan on when the outside temp is lower hten the inside by 4 degrees or more
total cost will be around 200 bucks nad will pay for it self in about 2 months later i will make somthing fo rhte ac that only turns it on when the fan is off.( re lay woith restart timer)

and dumdumdumdummmmmmmmmmmm picts coming soon

oh im gonna grab my cam and take pict of the return system i built.. now would be the perfect time to post picts of the inside of my tanks.

there is no coral in it right now :P haha tricked you rc mods didnt i muahahahaha

anyways dont excpect much building form me for afew weeks.. my next pay check is going to me and my gf going up to orlando for halloween horror nights on the 6th :P ( any reefers gonna be up that way lol)

she has slowed down this whole build by distracting me over the past month. trying to get her intrested in salt water so i can later enlist ehr help. ( aka MAKE THE FRAG PLUGS . and hand me that screw driver :P )

anyways up in to teh attic i go to install some insulation

no picts cause nothing has really changed. any time i have free time i end up being really tired ( usualy after work)

but anyways
plans for the next few weeks ( with lots of picts as soonnnnn as i start i promise! and this time they will be nice picts cause im gonna borrow g/f's camera! ( no more red blur!!!)

air cooling of the mh system ( a 3 inch intake from the attic connecting the two halides and then exausting out side) essentialy putting the halides outside and removing the addition of some 1200 btu/h to the room!

next will be an exaust fan for the whole room im looking now at building my own since i can get 100 times the air flow for the same price as a bathroom exaust
im looking at a 650 cfm system for about 45 bucks HELL YEAH!! only pulls 200 watts ( not that much when you consider how much an ac unit pulls)
step after that will be an ac unit (havent decided size yet!)

step after that will be a electronic controll system that will basicaly do the following

if temp inside >70-75 and >by atleast 4 degrees temp outside then run exaust fan turn off ac. ( why run the fan if the garadge is already cool enough)
if else turn on ac ( ac set at 76 )

both with a 10 minute restart timer
this will be accomplished using a solorpool heater controll system a relay and an ac themostat all wired together very dangourusly ( lol)
this set up i belive will alow maximum energy savings
and will only cost my about 200 bucks in electronics ( sounds like alot but consider this ac unit raised my electric by 50 - 100 bucks amonth)
