180g Durso

I am thinking about building some DIY Durso standpipes for my 180 AGA RR tank. I have a Reeflo Dart and am also considering using the 3/4" as an additional overflow (4 overflow pipes total).

Anyone have any suggestions on the following?

- Slip vs. threaded bulkheads. Is it even possible to use threaded bulkheads on this with two overflow pipes in a single megaflow compartment? or is it too small to be able to turn both of the pipes into the threads? I am leaning towards slip fit at this point.

- For the 1" bulkhead I am suppose to use 1.25" PVC and for larger bulkheads I can skip the reducer. What about the 3/4" bulkhead? Am I suppose to use a 1" PVC pipe?

- Anyone have any pics of the dual DIY Dursos in a Megaflow chamber?

For my planned 180g AGA with the MegaFlows, I am thinking of something similar. But instead of Dursos, I would make either Stockman or HGB standpipes. These would take alot less space in the overflows. Either way slip fits would make removing the standpipes easier.

Just my ideas on the topic.

Hmmm...
I guess I didn't realize that there were that many variations. I looked up the Stockman and HGB designs and I think I am going to go with the HGB standpipes now. Also, I've decided on using the slip fit bulkheads to make it easier to remove/insert. The HGB should take up less room and looks like it is easier to adjust than the Durso.

What about flow rate? Which method will yield the highest flow?
Megaflow vs. Durso vs. Stockman vs. HGB? or will the flow rate be the same?

The Durso method recommends 1.25" PVC pipe for a 1" bulkhead. I didn't see any recommendations for PVC pipe size on either the Stockman or HGB methods.
- What size PVC should I use on the 1" bulkhead? 1", 1.25", 1.5"?
- How about the 3/4" bulkhead? 3/4", 1", 1.25", 1.5"?

Also, will there be a big difference between thin walled and "standard" thickness PVC?

Thanks for your help,

Alan

I had these same questions but luckily Im in Hudson Valley Reef Keepers and I see mister Durso at our monthly meetings . He is also a member. For 3/4 bulkhead you would use 1" PVC
