Car question ?

i ma looking into buying a nother car used and found a 94 taurus for 300obo with a problem can anyone tell me what this could be ?

the email i got :

I honestly don't know what the problem. When you get it going, it seems to not go any further than 35 mph...not sure if the gears aren't shifting right or if it's the transmission. I would find it hard to believe if it's the transmission, as I still have the paperwork from when we had a brand new transmission put in 2 years ago.

any advice
probably a lemon but could be a good deal if its something minor

thanks

i know ford kinda yucks me out too

Could be the transmission isn't shifting out of first gear. That could be caused by something as minor as a loose wire or as major as needing another transmission rebuild. Those cars were notorious for tranny problems but if its in otherwise good shape it might be worth the price of a tranny rebuild. Just take it to a shop that offers a good warranty.

Could be the Throttle position sensor. Low Tranny fluid? How does the trans fluid smell? If you dont know what tranny fluid smells like then get a fresh bottle and compare it to the fluid in the car. Hopefully it is not burnt. What year Tauras?

I'm thinking it's not shifting out of second if it's going 35 and then having problems.
If it's running in the 2500-3500rpm range and not shifting it sounds like it dropped a gear somewhere.
