Who is successful just dripping kalk overnight?

I drip Mrs. Wages and for quite some time was also dosing Randy's two part. Since I stopped the two part about 3 weeks ago, my coral actually looks better. I was dripping and dosing for about a year. Doing so, I was never able to lower my alk levels. It was always high. I haven't tested yet with solely dripping, but things seem better.

I have been very happy with just dripping Mrs. Wages for over 3 years. I think the trick is making sure the salt you add to your reef is ionically balanced when you do water changes.. If your High on ALK and Low on Calcium then Mrs. Wages will keep your reef High on ALk and Low on Calcium... I use Instant Ocean salt and always goose the Calcium up with Seachem Reef Advantage Calcium to get it in the 400's with my water changes.

If it is balanced from the get go (9-10 Dkh, 400-420 Calcium) you should be able to maintain this dripping kalk, assuming you don't have a heavy demand on the ALK from an old DSB or Detritus filled rock.

How does detrius and old dsb affect alk? I am not saying it doesn't but i always thought the corals consumed the alk, namely sps and lps.

They are big consumers indeed. I don't have any sand in my reef and dripping Mrs' Wages keeps up with the demand of over 50 SPS in my 90 gallon reef. Seems that members in my reef club that have DSB that got filled with Detritus over the years couldn't keep up with the ALK demand in their reefs, similiar volume and qty of corals.. They always blamed it on growth, but I personally think dirty DSB's are ALK sinks.

All I pointing out is that dripping Mrs. Wages maintains my ALK and Calcium on my reef with no problems, but I keep it clean and bare.

Later,

Jim

That seems to go along with what I have found. My tank has a SSB with an undersized skimmer (light feeding though) and kalk has no problem keeping up with my calcium but I have to dose alk once a week or so.
