Phosban Media : Ferric Oxide Hydroxide

Dear Friends,
Here in India, i am unable to have access to the Phosban Media in Reactors. I have done my own DIY Reactor based on the Two Little Fishes 150 Model. But the media is not available here.

But there are many Chemical manufactures here who carry pure "Ferric Oxide Hydroxide" (even Beta Ferric Oxide Hydroxide) in pellets form.

Can i use that as the media? or is it necessary to purchase the media from US and use? are they different in any form? i.e., the Pure Chemical component and the media available online.

As i am in the Initial stages of my Diatom problem, a quick remedy would be helpful.

Thanks
Peri

Ask them if they are willing to ship. If not, maybe they can lead you in the right direction.

Considering it's the same substance in "Phosban" here, I initially don't see a problem. Ideally, your best bet is to make a long distance call to an experienced aquarium product vendor here in the states and ask them exactly what is in their "Phosban" product. Best of luck!

Thanks ... bayoxide 33 (those guys dont know what it is), they are asking for the chemical formulae!!!

They dont ship international as its chemicals based. But, the company selling here GFO, says they do export the same.

Will there be any dire consequences if i use and it? not to many corals in the tank, just some softies and a skunk.

Ferric Oxide Hydroxide is in fact the same as PhosBan (as ClayWagner stated), so I would think it safe to use; however, some of the more nutrient loving corals (softies, leathers, etc.) may not grow as rapidly. It is safe though, unlike alumina-based phosphate removers.
