Wow...
I thought I had already done alot of reading and searching and everything to figure out how to set up a tank. What a weath of information! On a good note, I've started off just about as well as can be expected. Did the set up, the sand, baserock with some squid (didn't have shrimp handy), two liverock w/ coralline only, and have stopped for a few weeks. Will hopefully be adding a few more live rock pieces with the fun "critters" in it then. I'm sure that I'll continue to prove my ignorance again and again as I post, and so wanted to say "thanks" in advance!. Matt |

Thanks for the information.
Our fish tank started out FW and then we moved to SW just for the colors. Our home is small so we have a 20 gallon tank to work with. Then I walked into the doctor's office and he had a beautiful reef setup. He gave me your website and I have been reading every chance I could. Thanks for providing such a wealth of information for the beginner. |

Hi all,
I currently have 4 tropical fish tanks running in my home with each tank having their own separate breeds such as discus only, angel fish only and african cichlids only tank. I mentioned in a posting to Discus as a hobby site that I am interested in starting up a salt water aquarium with fish and possibly corals in the next few months by possibly converting my 55 gal tank or even buy another 55 gal tank. A moderator there whom I highly respected recommended that I come to this site and spend the next couple of months and read up all that I can and ask as much question as I can before I start on it. With that said, I've spent the last couple of weeks in between time from work and personal life at home with the wife and baby and tending to my other tropical tanks reading up as much as time allowed. I am thankful that the moderator refer me to this site as I've been reading up on so much valuable information from knowing what kind of substrate is needed to the kind of lighting is required. I know that starting up a salt water tank is not cheap and it gets even more expensive if I am to have corals in the tank because of the lighting requirement involve and the cost of running those lightings. Hopefully, with you guys help, I won't spend money on things that I don't need nor make costly mistakes and end up killing its inhabitants. James
