Calling all BASS HEADS!!!!

Need some expert advise. Should you need to worry about two 12" subs rated at 86 decibels each breaking any windows in your car?

Large mouth or small mouth? if they're large than yes. If they are small don't worry about it.

Um, I don't know. I just play bass. Though from hanging out with friends that are into the whole car audio thing, two 12" subs seems like a gross overkill. Personally, I'd imagine they sound horrible.

My bass amp has an 18" sub that can handle 127dB @ 800W, though it's not for car use.

It can sound bad if not done right. I'm not happy with the system unless it pins my fuzz buster to the windshield. I also don't torture others with it at stoplights or residential areas.

I like the sound of 10's but never felt sick like with dual 12's. I guess I had my hopes up for a better response on RC. Apparently a bunch of old folks here anymore. . .

As long as you keep a window cracked just a little bit you should never have to worry about breaking the windows out in the car, and that's provided that your car is completely sealed.

Other than that, the whole window breaking theory has never been proven by anyone although many people have tried. In all my years, I've never heard of it actually happening.

Mythbusters even tried to prove the myth with no success.

If you are pushing the decibels in your car so much that your windows are going to break, it's a wonder that you still have any hearing left as it does horrible damage to the fragile bones in your ears.

Good to know. I don't have the new subs installed yet but they are on the way I was just wanting others experience with it as this is the loudest system I've had.

I run two 12 ID MAX with a decent amount of wattage in my 4Runner...they are more SQ but can handle whatever I give them. I think depends on the car and what you are trying to achieve with them.

ran a single 10 at 600 watts in a regular cab Colorado, that was enough for me. I'm gonna throw the same sub/amp combo in my Extended cab Silverado and I'm sure it'll have enough bass for me there too.

Never was one for strictly hearing the bass end of my music. although it was nice to kick it up a few times to shut up the kids in the car next to me with a little ol'8 they thought was hitting

Expert advice:
The only way you will be breaking any windows with 2 – 12" subs is if you throw them through the window!

BTW, my expertise comes from the fact that I am probably the only person on RC that has actually broken a car window with bass. That windshield broke at 170+ decibels which is not possible with 2 - 12" woofers. You will never see 140 decibels with those woofers.

nah, I've run 2 12's before and while they did shake the rearview mirror off I wouldn't worry about breaking windows. I think the mirror was weak before the subs came anyway. I think the folks who worry about that kind of thing are those who are in competition series events with thirty subs in a van or some extreme system like that.

Or just 4 - 15"s in a Rabbit with 40,000+ watts

I have two Boston Acoustic Pro 12's pushed by a JL 500 watt mono amp in my 2001 Escape. About the only problem I've had is not being able to put a cup on top of the car without it bouncing off. I need to add another JL, but have too many hobbies as it is. Make sure to post picks of the set-up.
