Question Help ID hitchhiker- starfish? *PICS*

I just discovered this guy last night- less than 1/2 inch across.

Moving slowly.

It took him 10 minutes to move from point A...

...to point B.

I cannot show you any clearer pictures because he's out of sight now.

Thanks in advance,
Darren

I leave most Asterina stars alone that I have found in my tank. But, they are all tan colored and appear to feed on diatoms. That blue color is striking and somewhat concerning. I would be concerned that this one is not reef safe.

Usually harmless and reefsafe.

Mine stay on the glass and rocks. They usually hide during the day and come out in the evening.

Some people swear they eat corals. Most people have never seen it. Thus, if you want to play it safe, only get rid of the ones you see on corals (I've never seen then on any corals in my tanks).

If you don't want it, don't toss it. Many reefers want them because they are great little algae eaters. I even had some wipe out cyano that was on a rock.

Best of luck,

Roy

I've never seen a blue asterina before... I'd keep it, but seperate it from your display tank just to be safe

No, just the one so far. We rarely see him. Why?

Where theres one, there may be more.

If you have no corals then there is nothing to worry about. Let them do their thing!

If they are in your fuge then they are already in or soon to be in your display tank.
