Yep. It is now superglued to the tank... with a rock blocking any egress attempt.

Well there were "Favias" till about a year ago when many Indonesian exporters understood they can make much more money out of them so they added Acanthastrea echinata to their price lists.

If they would take the time to correctly ID they could have capitalized years ago!

I dont really think Acans were so popular years ago.

However ,they are getting thousands of corals every week , there are at least hundred of legal exporters and few hundreds of illegals ones in Jakarta only.

Only the very big ones bother really checking what they got , the others are happy to get few bucks a piece as long as they have safe customers who pays the bills.

Through the years ,I saw hundreds of Echinatas that arrived as Favia or Favites.

Is that were Echinatas are coming from, Jakarta? I would have thought Tonga and Fiji.

I haven't seen anyone chime in and say that they have had their Acanthastrea echinata for 5 years. I've worked in a LFS for 10 years, and I can say I've never seen one come in until the whole craze started.

IMO, the Acanthastrea craze is what got the exporters looking for them. Of course, at the time, people were looking for lordhowensis, but all that the Importers could find was echinatas. At that time, anything with the name Acanthastrea attached to it sold like hot cakes. People are more educated on them now.

Randy, echinatas are mostly from Indo. I used to get them as favia as well but knew they weren't. They are quite common in Indo and others non indo with many different colorations.

I used to have an Echinata about 2-3 years ago but it was a dull brown/green so I sold it. I bought it as a favia but knew what it was whithin a week after I bought it ( after a lot of searching). It wasn't until the big craze when all the nice colored ones started showing up.

I think JT knows what he's talking about. I would've paid the same price you did in about 2 seconds. It's an awesome coral.

Peace,

Chip
