actinic purposes
i was just wondering do actinics provide any benefits to corals or are they more for aesthetic reasons?

It depends on the coral.
Actinic bulbs basically simulate sunlight after it goes through @50 feet (if I remember correctly) of water, so alot of the yellow and red spectrum are filtered out by the water, leaving mostly blues. Shallow water species don't get much benefit from Actinics, but deeper water corals do seem to appreciate the bluer spectrum. Actinic also really helps bring out the blues, greens, and gives some corals that "neon" look. |
