Octopus NW150 recircing question
So I'm going to recirc my octopus nw150. For those who have done it, what hole did you cut for the return/feed, 3/4 or 1/2" Also did you stand the pump up or did you simply rotate the pump towards the body and cut a hole below the existing entry hole for the skimmer? Is there any advantege to making the new hole above or below the one thats already there? Thanks.

I would use the hole already there and just turn the pump, drill a hole, add a uniseal and your done. Then just add a feeder hole. The bigger the hole, the better, so i'd use a 3/4". If you use a smaller hole it will restrict teh pump to much and not allow as much air to be pulled.

ok so drill right below the existing one. Ok cool. Thats what I was thinking of doing but i didnt know if there were any draw backs. I guess this way the pump can still sit on the ground and I wouldnt have to put a balance plate under the skimmer to counteract for the weight of the pump.

Exactly, you want it to look like this basically.

Forgot, just wanted to tell you that if this is your first recirc, when your drilling the holes make sure you push a bit and push through the other side. If you get caught and let the drill bit sit there it will melt into the acrylic and you'll have a big prob. Also make sure you smoothe down the holes before adding the uniseals.

yes thats exactly what I'm talking about. Dang I've been on that site looking at octopus skimmers and have even bought mine from there and never noticed that one...Thanks for the link Luke. I've always seen this:
http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/ca...circnw150l.jpg which is the same thing, but the use the orignal hole thats usually drilled in the skimmer for the intake and make a hole higher for the return. Didn't know if there was any draw back from one to the other. I would think you would get better production if its at the bottom....possibly longer reaction time? Who knows. but seeing they make one that way puts me at ease. Thanks for the tips on drilling, I've drilled 1 acrylic piece in my time and that was a 1" thick sump, very different I know, but I hear ya on dont stop while drilling. Thanks for the help Lee |
