Where did you get them from? Are they that rare to go for $600?

thanks

I think a place in NJ had a pair last summer or there about. Didn't think Live Aquia carried some thing like that. Any luck with them mating and laying eggs?

Hopefully some one that breeds clown will take them as it would be interesting to see if all the young come out like the parent or just a few do. Well good luck with them.

Coraldude, Great pair of snowflakes! I think that one of the original pairs was sent to ORA in Florida. They developed the Picasso (my avatar) from the snowflakes. I've seen them for sale from time to time and would love to have a pair, but $600 is beyond me.

If you need more information, pm me and I'll be happy to help!

Again, Great Pair of super-rare clowns!

Just to clarify things

ORA Picasso Clownfish are not "Snowflakes". The "snowflakes" are produced by a pair of A. ocellaris in a hatchery in England. Picasso Clownfish from ORA are actually A. percula. To entirely different species.

Here is a forum discussing these clowns...if you want to buy them, you're probably going to find them for anywhere between $500-600. That's what I've seen.

Forum on Snowflake Clowns

I did see them on liveaquaria.com in the divers den section, but that is only once in a blue moon.

So if you are interested in these, $600 isn't excessive IMO.

They are consider rare because of the mismarkings and the price is pushed up because of that there is no clown fish named snowflake clown that name was made up few years ago never heard it again until this post. They are nice looking do not get me wrong. I raise pigeons and some of the have a recessive genes that can produce odd color birds total different from the parents this is the same thing with these clowns. Good luck with them

Snowflake clowns are a rare morph between a Perc and Ocellaris clownfish. Here's pic of one of mine:

$600 is on the higher end of the spectrum, but not unreasonable.

No, they are not a hybrid. See my posting above.

Does anyone have a link to any info on the Picasso Clowns? I could not find anything out there.

Thanks

You can see them at ORA, which is:

http://www.orafarm.com/

Note: The picassos are not related to the Snowflake clowns, as stated above by Oama. He would know this for sure!

I wonder if they are the same thing as a snowball clown. However from what I hear snowball clowns are all white with a little orange on the tail. In addition, I heard that the markings are caused by inbreeding and it is a genetic defect. Those are some awesome clowns though and they do retail from 499.99 to 699.99 depending on your location and your lfs mark-up

It was Reef Encounter in Hackensack NJ that had a pair of these. They had them for 600 for the pair. Great looking fish.
