Show me your Pillar's

I'm looking for creative ways of making some pillars our of existing LR. I know about drilling and using fiberglass rods, epoxy, etc.... I would like to see your end results, show me some pictures!

Here's an interesting thread that a guy on our local reef club bulletin board posted on his rock pillar/tower.

Thanks Nathan, that's the stuff I'm looking for. I know that there are some people out there with cool looking towers or pillars, I just need to find them.

Here is a pic of a couple of pillars that I made using some 3/8" thick acrylic rod.

Do give some details. I'm thinking you drilled the rocks and put the rod through them but how else I they supported/joined? I the base sitting on the glass? How long did it take you and hard was it to do?

It was very easy to do. I used two 18" long 3/8" thick clear acrylic rod. Each rod is glued into a 5" round 1/2" thick piece of acrylic that sets on the bottom of the tank and uses the sand to hold the stands in place. Next, I went to HD and bought a 1/2" masonry bit and strategically drilled holes through the rock I wanted skewered. Next I just stacked the rock and that's it.

Did you horizontally skewer the top rock, or is it just one big U shaped rock skewered vertically on each side? Stunning structure, BTW. Hopeing to do somthing similar in my new 30" tall tank.

PS - where'd you buy the acrylic and glue?

It's actually three rocks. One flat rock skewered twice and two smaller ones to "cap" the rods sticking up.

I purchased the glue and acrylic from a local plastics store. I used Weld-on #16 to glue the rod to the flat base.

this is one of the coolest aquascaping jobs i've seen. hopefully bobherbertperry doesn't mind...actually, i don't think he has this tank anymore, but anyway, the aquascape is cool.

its a rock stack. i had talked to bobherbertperry about the tank. its a 60g cube, with a PVC frame. the base is covered with rocks and the pillar is 5 or 6 hand selected pieces with holes drilled in them and then slid on to the frame.

that tank along with another tank i've seen in a diary thread around here somewhere have inspired my to do something different on my next tank...no more standard rock piles for me!

That's why I am asking the question. I have a 225 to set up next month and I'm doing something different. I don't want rock piles, walls, etc.. but something very unique. I have some great ideas, and they keep getting better with pictures like those, thanks!

on a smaller scale you can use plastic coat hanger Just cut out the horizontal part, and drill with a 1/4" drill bit. that's what i did 2 years ago and everything's great. sorry no pics aval
