Exclamation I don't have lugol's but will either of these work?

I am expecting 2 colonies this week, one blue w/brown skirt and 1 pink w/white mouths. I do not have the Lugol's but I have regular iodine tincture(medicine cabinet kind) and kent marine concentrated iodine. Will either of these work for a dip and how much of either do I use. The frags are only about 2" in diameter. Please be specific in amounts of water/iodine. And do i use saltwater from tank, ro water or what?

Thanks in advance folks!!!

I guess no one has an answer....I have read that store bought iodine will work in higher doses but specific measurements, iodine/saltwater was not given.
Anyone?

Read the sticky at the top of this forum for zoo dip. Use RO/DI water, same temp and PH as your tank. No salt.

About the drugstore iodine, read here: http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hreadid=610757

DO NOT USE KENT IODINE. I made that mistake and lost alot of zoo's, a regular R/O fresh water dip should do you fine.

Doesnt kent make Lugol's? Maybe lugol's is a general name, and kent is just one manufacturer?

Kent's Tech I Iodine worked GREAT for me to get rid of zoo-eating nudi's.

5ml (1tsp) in 16oz RO/DI. Vigorously swish the zoos right side up, then upside down. Total time - about 30-60 seconds. Put the zoo back in the tank and move to the next one.

I did it *every* day for 1 week and then every other day for 1 week. I never saw any nudi's after the 6th day of the first week.... But, wanted to make sure they were all dead.

One rock had a mushroom on it and it survived as well.

Theres a debate about Iodine....I have dosed Iodine for 15 years and have never had one badside effect. It has not killed or done anything detrimental to my tanks over the years. I might just be lucky, I don't dose real heavy amounts though either. I have used Kents Iodine and Seachem Iodine for dips and have had no problems with either. I have also used just straight RO/DI water to and have had no problems. Never found anything either so I dont know if it was working or the colonies were pest free...I know it didn't kill any zoanthids though....
