GSMxOCL Hybrids Pics

Ok People, Here they are!

Pics of Hybrid Goldstripe Maroons and A. ocellaris.

I would like to thank Jay Frankenberry for allowing me to scan the photos and post them here. They are of the offspring of a pair (goldstripe and ocellaris) (I forgot to ask which was female and which was male)that he had spawn for him 6 times (they have since stopped spawning). He tried rearing each batch, and by the end was successful at getting a good number of them through. I told Jay about RC. He said he had no problem with me posting the pics. Currently, only 4 have survived and are co-habitating. One seems to be a larger female, one and semi-large male and the other two are much smaller (pre-males).

This first pic is of the larval tank.

Boy they sure do show the cross alright!

The little ~30 day old have the exact shape of a GSM at that age, and setting on the bottom just like they do too at that age, but have the color and barring of the A. ocellaris.

Then the first older one has that classic straight mid bar of a GSM, the fin shapes too. Then the second shows the classic A. ocellaris mid bar.

No doubt in my mind what the parents where.

It would be interesting to see if any developed cheek spines or not.

Thanks to you and Jay for posting these. I will bet this becomes a "popular" thread.

I told Jay about RC. Hopefully, he will join our online community. He also said that he would email me some updated photos soon.

Oh how adorable!

I was wondering if the problems he had raising them are typical of hybrid pairs? So would there be the same amount of problems with say ocellarisXpercula? They are more similar so I don't think it would be as bad. Any one have any other experiences with mixed pairs? We have a female percula with an ocellaris male and just wondering how that's going to work out.

Thanks Oama! I've been waiting to see those for a while, I was getting really antsy. Just a follow up to that, here is a picture of my pair of the clowns that brought Oama to get these pics. Thanks alot for taking time to do that.

JKramer: No Problem

oceanarus: The trouble he was having was the typical learning curve for first time breeders. I truely doubt that hybrid spawns are any tougher than regular spawns. As long as the eggs are viable. Aqualife use to regularly cross rubrocinctus with tomatos (but then they were more closely related also).

I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Very nice! That is what I love about these boards - the chance to learn/see something new!

Very interesting! This hybrid looks nothing like what I thought was a Maroon Ocellaris hybrid, so now I have no idea what those clowns were. It must remain a mystery as I have not seen another like them in many years. They were imported by Mike Theile (the guy they named theilei after), and he never got any more in.

Very nice!

You think you can create hybrids with any clown pairs? Of course as long as they get along and can mate.

Very neat!

Please see new thread "Hybrid Clowns" for pictures of the pair of clownfish that started it all. Sorry; we're new at this and started a new thread rather than replying.
