MAY nTOTM - Anguswu's Mushroom Tank
It is great honor to be elected as MAY nTOTM. Thank Junkidu keep pushing join nTOTM program. And especially thank the people that keep following my tank and encouraging me to keep my tank progress.
I started reefkeeping since 2005¡¦ Aug. when I bought a 24¡¨x 16¡¨ x 16¡¨ bowfront tank. At first half years, I used a canister and a hang-on tank skimmer as my filtration. But my tank was always not stable, and not decides what I should keep in my tank. I learned a lot lessons. I started readng books and some forums to study my hobby. And then I was thinking to design a back sump with a better inter-water skimmer to replace my canister and old skimmer. I am glad to say I have succeeded to use my sump after I install it after one month. I also decided to my main inhabitants are mushrooms and ricordeas. CURRENT TANK: Main tank : Bowfront 24inch x 16inch x 16inch Sump tank: Custom made 55cm(H) x 45cm(L) x 15cm(W) Main tank volume is approximately 96 liters (25 gallons). The total volume is approximately 126 liters (33 gallons), including the sump. The sump is separately behind the main tank. FILTRATION AND CIRCULATION: I am sorry it is hard to take a good shot for my sump that is behind my main tank. I make a picture to show it up. I use Eheim 1250 pump to suck the water from main tank to the sump. The water comes through the left side of the sump. And go through the Pura filter pad, one coarse filter pad, Rowaphos, zeolite, and live rocks. The skimmer inside the sump is Marco 150p. Another main circulation pump inside the main tank is Rio 1400. Eheim water flow is from the left bottom to the right top and the Rio water flow is from right bottom to the center top surface of the water in the main tank. I also have a little pump Rio 600 for the chiller. I also stock lots live rocks in the main tank and sand bed 10cm. Please forgive me I did not weight my live rocks. I cannot tell you the exact quantity. CHILLER AND HEATER Chiller: GXC 200, set at 25 degree Celsius and working whole year. I use a Rio 600 to be the water supply for the chiller. Heater: 100 Watt, set at 24 degree Celsius and only working during winter. MAINTENENCE AND FEEDING: I change 20 liters salt water every 5 or 7 days depending on my work schedule. I also dip one drop iodine and 3ml Kent marine Strontium & Molybdenum each weekend. Before I change the water, I measure the gravity in the tank and make sure the water I put in is at same gravity. I fed flake food every day for the fishes. Sometimes I fed half cube of brine shrimp. For the ricordea, rhodactis, brain corals and other corals, I fed with Cyclop-eeze or fresh sliced shrimp meal every three days. WATER PARAMETERS pH: 8.1-8.3 Temperature: 24-26 degree Celsius Specific Gravity: 1.022 ¡V 1.024 Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: <10ppm Phosphate: <0.25ppm Calcium: about 420ppm Alkalinity: 6-8 dkh LIGHT PLAN: HQI: 20000K 150W 14:00 ¡V 19:00 HQI: 20000K 150W 17:00 ¡V 22:00 T5 Actinic: ATI Blue plus 24Wx2 12:00 ¡V 24:00 Moonlight: Blue LED 10:30 ¡V 01:30 LIVE STOCKS FISH Red scooter blenny Twin spotted wrasse Porters angel Orange spotted goby Bicolor blenny Continuing ................. |

This is by far the best nano aquarium i have every seen. There is so much color even though it is only zoo's and mushrooms (dominated) . I like how you show that you dont need all of those fancy sps's to have a absolutly stunning tank.

Thanks all for the compliments.
My twin spot wrasse is not aggressive and it is reef safe. I bought it when it is 2cm length, now it's 5cm. Actually i am planning to change the bowfront tank that is not good for taking shots. I may get the wrasse to a bigger tank because the wrasse is getting bigger. |
