I was wondering how many people actually use a Tunze vs. a Maxi-Jet or Seio.

I like my 2 powersweeps! You have to clean them once a month or so but they move the water and make a great current!

I've the Natural Wavemaker with 3 MJ1200 and 3 add'l phs in a 75g and just ordered the Tunze 6000 with a single controller. The lowest energy use ph is the MJ 900 with about 8 or 11W (I can't remember anymore) and the MJ 1200 consumes 20W each and the Tunze is only 13 or 15W which will lower the energy usage and the heat generated from the phs.

In about a year or so, I'm sure Vortech will be a frontrunner as well

I use a 1/2 inch Sea Swirl mounted on the end of my return hose in a wedge tank: with a 90 degree sweep, I get good coverage, and it doesn't seem to have any problems.

Tunze are great, but I also use a couple Seio's in my smaller 65. They are a good bang for the buck IMO.

When I use powerheads, I use maxi jets. I try to use manifolds on all tanks now though.

I used AquaGlobes because they don't generate any heat at all. Their transformers are at the wall outlet instead of in the casing like all others.

you can't tilt them but you can put them where ever you like on the glass, I guess if you ran barebottom you could put one on the base!

I would love a Vor Tech but they are $350 which is a ton of money for a PH.

I'm in the process of working on a better mod for the MJ. I can shell out big bucks for a skimmer and lights, but there's no reason ONE powerhead has to cost $350. Yes flow is important, but I have had tremendous success with MJs. Even without the mod, if you place MJs in the right spot, they get the job done and done well. It appears the you either have a Tunze or MJs. Is that because most of us are poor or is that because MJs really get the job done well.

the biggest advantage of the vortech is it does not heat the tank, my tank temprature is now lower and more stable. Once the controller comes out they will be perfect.

Where did you buy your Vortech pump from? And how much was shipping?
Thanks. |
