Well, I have two possible Id's on my newest Favia ( & a number of the ones pictured here lately).
F. speciosa & F. Fragum are the likeliest suspects, but that could be wrong. All I know for sure is mine is the same species King Kong has ( & was the same color at the start).

Yes. Another beautiful bit of Favia eye candy ('bout time too!). I really lov the mint/teal color & the contrast with the reddish brown. Very nice specimen!

Sincerely,
Matthew

This is an older picture of a favia that had its feeding sweepers out.

WOW! Awesome thread. I think my jaw literally dropped a few times, ok, well several times actually. I just got one recently, it is reddish and green, I'll have to take a pic to post. What I would like to know if how to frag them and where can I got some of these crazy colors?? They don't ever have stuff like this at my LFSes. Are these generally expensive?

Mark,
I'm going to try & get a shot like that SOON ( When I accquire my Digital Cam!). All you have to too in my tank is add a pinch or two of frozen plankton & the feeders ( & aggressive sweepers too!) come out ALL NIGHT.
Zepplein,
Cool blue & mint. Love yours.
I know we have not reached the end. Just because I was absent 4 days, don't die on me now! I like the Fungia thread, but this is my favorite coral. More eye candy, I'm in SERIOUS withdrawl here!

Sincerely,
Matthew

Here's an oldie from a couple years ago that I had. If I recall right, it was about 15" across. It went to a local reefer.

That's awesome.

I know Lunchbucket has a beautiful piece that grew huge from a tiny 1" frag.

Zeppplein,
I own that very species ( whater its proper ID is.). But mine is not that nice, it hasn't fared as well as I had hoped. But its that one, even if only a fraction as large.
Jakano,
Yeah, no doubt Favids look best in Actinic light!

Here's the one I got tonight. For some reason the camera wouldn't quite pick up the colors right. I like the "stars" in the polyps.

No doubt about it, Appaloosa, that is the same species my newest Favia is. They look like they were both fragged from the same colony. I'll be interested to see if yours keeps its origional color, though. Mine is now green & orange ( it turned brown for about a month.. at least orange is moving in the right direction!).
Keep me informed, please, OK?

Sincerely,
Matthew

I just recently got one that looks exactly like jakano's pictured above. I don't know anything about them, except that after reading this thread, I want more!

It is starting to extend a feeding sweeper here and there - only like 5-6 total right now, but as I was looking at it very closely, I noticed a little 'arm' extending from the center, it reminds me of a porcelain crab, going in and out, in and out. Is this normal? It's not at all similar in appearance to the feeding sweepers, it looks kinda like the long arms of a spaghetti worm, except these are short and they move back and forth like a porcelain crab does with his fans.

Should I be concerned? It looks healthy.
Thanks!!

Here's a pic just because...I can't get a good enough pic to show the little arm I'm talking about.
