What helps SPS corals keep their color?
I have a Green Monti Digi SPS Coral that is looking alot more yellow than green. It is still blooming and growing. Im guessing it has something to do with some type of element that the coral feeds off of in my water that im missing.
Thank You |

Well, you're right about trace elements having something to do with it, but also the lighting will be influential regarding the specific color of the coral and so, too, would the quality of your reef's water.

All other things being equal, I find that adding iron weekly to my tank makes a world of difference in the color of all my coral.

ok so lighting im not going to be able to control since I have already upgraded to where I am not and im not going any further. The tanks water could absolutly be one of the biggest contributers at this time since the tank has been greatly deglected for the past few months. Also what trace elements should I be suplimenting to help a coral like this?

Maintaining calcium, alk and magnesium as well as keeping phosphates undetectable also proper lighting

Proper water changes add most all the nutrients our tanks need to house healthy (colorful) corals, IMO.
The above mentioned things should be monitored to make sure your salt is providing them, and the inhabitants arent using them too fast.

Lighting needs
I agree with all of the suggestions - since we do not have first hand information of your corals' needs.
In terms of lighting, consider whether they are getting enough light - enough lumen - you need about 15 per square inch. Next is spectrum - is the light covering the 400nm to 700nm in a balanced way? Finally, is there enough PAR - 1200 micrMols/m2/sec is the right amount.

oops. I intended to say 1800 microMols/m2/sec of PAR.

it also could be too much light. light colors are a sign of too much light or low alkalinity, or low salinity.
low lighting tends to lead to darker(browner) corals ime.

ok great, thank you for all the suggestions, I guess I have some math now to work on to check on lighting issues along with very frequent water changes for a bit to make up for all the time it was ignored.

ahh, rainbow sherbet "style" is what my dyslexia told me.
yeah, i was thinking stylophora or verracusa due to the shape, but would never have put that color pattern together with a stylophora.
