results were that the quad 27wattLoA pc was an
excellent light if you could keep the ballasts cool,by by drilling holes in em. and tht the ballast would fail if put on a timer.

best bet was to just run em 24/7

IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO ORDER THE TCP 19/85W BULB FOR 9.99 EASILY THEN LISTEN UP!!

ok,

step 1: Call the home depot supply number 1-800-431-3000

step 2: Ask for the special order department, the bulb can only be special ordered.

step 3: the part # for the bulb is 99570, this is for the 19w 5100k par 38 TCP bulb, I assume the 16w is also available, but you will have to ask them to look up its part number

I had to create a special order account, it was free and fast to set up, also the bulb is only special order so it can't be ordered online through the HD supply catalog. Shipping was free and it should take 6 to 10 days.

This is the cheapest place I have found to order the correct 5100k bulb!

Thanks for the help, Silver Stang. I'm sure that will help a few people. I might order a few myself that way.

I got a box from HD today, could it be my bulb already? No, just a giant HD supply catalog the size of three phone books. I will post when I get the bulb.

FYI - I also just ordered a bulb from the instructions above. Two things to mention:

Cost is 9.99 each unless you order a quanity. Then it drops to 8.97.

Shipping is only free if your order is above $25.00. Otherwise it's $5.00 for shipping.

Just thought I would let everyone know...

Thanks a lot for the info guys.. I just ordered two of them. $9.99 each plus tax and delivery time frame is 21 business days.

BTW- It appears that the original bulb on the thread from Commercial Electric with SKU 774-265 is a 2700k bulb... our local HD has a ton of them... since the special order will take so long to get here I will probably pick up one of the 2700k and try it out..

Tony.

must be a ton of reef central folks ordering them slowing down the shipping timeframe

At least the quote didn't have a shipping cost included...

I did get the other bulb yesterday, the 2700k one, and it doesn't look too bad... I guess I will see the difference about a month from now...

what does LOA stand for?
Anyone if they make such bulbs in the 10,000K range? It would be good for my nano if it was the right color...

LOA is Lights Of America. Some Home Depots carry that light, but not the ones here in Texas.

All -

I just receieved my TCP bulb today (ordered 5/2 arrived today 5/10). As an FYI to everyone, the bulb Kelvin rating is now 3500K. Home Depot's description is still as stated above i:

Part number: 99570
Description: "TCP 19 WATT PAR 38 LAMP 5100 KELVIN (NON-RETURNABLE)"

If called HD to ask "who's right" on the description. It turns out, TCP is right as the new rating is stamped on the base of the bulb as 3500K. HD is calling their TCP rep to make the change in their system so it reflects the proper information and the customer isn't mis-led. I've also asked him to ask the TCP rep to see if there is (still) a 5100K bulb available and if so, how can we get one.

If you've ordered this bulb recently, check the base of your bulb to see if it's stamped 3500K. I know the rep I spoke to would allow the return, but if you've had yours awhile, you may not be able to return it.

My question is this: Is 3500K good enough for a refugium? If it is, I'll just keep it.

If I hear back from the HD rep, I'll post again. Just thought everyone should know...

How about THIS:

Ordered two (2) on 5/3...rec'd 5/10:

Part number: 99570
Description: "TCP 19 WATT PAR 38 LAMP 5100 KELVIN (NON-RETURNABLE)"

Interestingly, I got one as stated above and one TCP 19 WATT PAR 40 LAMP 3500 KELVIN

So I called and they are shipping me a replacement and told me to keep the Par 40

btw...no shipping charge...just $1.65 tax on the two bulbs

I picked up one of those floodlamps from home depot. Didn't have a kelvin rating. I don't know if its the same or not, but next to a 150 HQI, you can't even tell its on. Think i'll stick with my overkill HQI refuge bulb...

I just got a call from HD and they said TCP actually just sent me the wrong one. (looks like the same as you TA). The message said they still do carry the correct light and I'm waiting on a call back from HQ so i can see what they would like me to do with it...

Sorry for the "false" alarm...but at least you should look at your bulbs to make sure you get what you expected...

Also, Tony is right...despite what the person told me, it doesn't look like they charged me for shipping either unless it's just not on the ticket...

I spoke to HD special order dept today and got a price on the bulb part #99570 at $11.59 each or $11.16 if order over 25. I asked about the change in price but they did not know. The bulb was described to me as TCP 19 watt PAR 38 Lamp 5100 Kelvin. No shipping on first order.

I just special ordered the bulb from the Home Depot phone number, and they raised the price to a little over $13. Luckily, if you order two, it is just enough for free shipping.
