I highly doubt that anyone will be able to tell you what the species is. I am sure a lot will offer some guesses though. It doesnt grow or even look like that in the wild. Its from the Marshall Islands and its grown at the clam farm there. We normally just call it Marshall Tricolor.

Great shots, everyone. Look at that tort forest.
Its interesting that the tort bleaches out under higher light, how much light do you recommend to keep it at its best color?

thanks chris

those torts are amazing, My digi has a white slightly lavender body, but no green. Does that mean it is the common strain or will it eventually develope some green?

lol that narrows it down some.. I was thinking it was from somewhere in the Indo/Pacific

IMbuggin.. very impressive growth.

Dustin: what is the status of the ORA tenuis being offered up to the stores for ordering?

Also can you post pics of the purple bottlebrush and Rose millepora you guys are putting out?

Typhon, it is one of these two corals. They seem to be the same species, just two color morphs. You can actually grow the two colors together into one colony.

Todd, no idea on the tenuis, its not doing so well anymore.
This is the Rose millepora. Its sort of reddish, orangish pink.

This is the "purple bottle brush" When grown under real bright light its polyps stay retracted, its corallites get more compact and scale like and the color intensifies. Under lowerlight its quite bushy.
This is a shot from ideal conditions.

This is a shot from lower light.

Same, or _very_ similar coral again.

Here is a picture of one of the original colonies that frags were taken from, still growing nicely in the wild. This is the lagoon at Wau Island (part of Mili Atoll in the Marshall Islands), taken in just a few feet of water. Notice that there are some changes in the coral after having been in captivity for several years and going through several generations of cuttings.

Dustin, all I can say is that you guys are doing amazing stuff lately. ORA has blown up since when you guys first got going, it is absolutely incredible, that is the only way I can describe it. The pieces you are bringing into the hobby are unbelievable.

Have a look around.

http://www.dustindorton.com/work/

All of our corals will be on the ORA site when it is revamped over the next couple of weeks/months. Saving me some much needed server space!
