Its being built as part of his new house. Its so large though, that yes, the construction of it has to be integrated into the construction of the home. So much for resale value!

that skimmer in the picture is run by two dart needle wheels that he custom made. tiny might was someone elses skimmer, and it is a smaller pump than the dart.

I would never dream of a reef that huge... part of the house is built AROUND the reef... its huge! The $$$$ you need to do something like that is crazy. FWIW, Bill has a garage with a nice Porche and Ferrari, and if I get to that sort of income, Ill be buying those instead, and then use all the money to take trips to Lizard Island.

Not nearly impressive as bills but here's my first diy skimmer. Just waiting on the plumbing fittings and a needle wheel for my dart. All the parts were drawn up in mastercam and I ran em on the cnc mills at work.

Dang humboldt reefer, that thing is a CNC'ed beaut!

One suggestion though, you have some corners in that bubble plate where larger bubbles can build up. I suggest you not just run a pipe straight into the bubble plate from the Dart, but at an angle if you can, so 'spin' the contents under the bubble plate and prevent larger bubbles from building up. That is, unless you planned on doing this already.

Dang... got enough nylon bolts on that neck flange?

I may have went just a little overboard with the bolts lol. I actually was planning on plumbing the dart strait into the diffusor chamber. But I plan on making a few more diffusors to play with. Its not glued in. I'll probably add an acrylic rod to the center of the chamber to bolt the different plates in with. This one has 249 .257" holes. If I would have created all the circles tangent to one another I could have fit about 300. I'm going to try 1/8" holes and 3/8" holes also.

So that piece that is in the middle with all the holes near the bottom is where the water will enter the skimmer?

Its based on a bubble king. That lower chamber with all the holes in it is the diffusor chamber. The output from dart will flow into this chamber and flow up into the main body through the holes in the diffusor plate. The cleaned water will flow down around the diffusor through the radial slots into the lower box to either be recirculated or flow back out to the sump. The skimmer intake will be fed into the intake of the dart.

Harold Edwards What are you working on? I've got got some ball screws and linear rails I've been saving for a router project but I havent done anything with them yet.

Here's an image of mine.

It's built out of mostly off the shelf parts like food containers plastic boxes. $70 total outlay.

It has lots of convenience items like screw on lids and screw on riser tube for quick maintenance. Is very durable and easy to build

Here's a build diagram.

The build instructions are detailed on my
Web Page.

Here's a link to my RC thread on it.

Id like to get that thing in the back onthe blue metal mount...

turned the other way round, that would cost allot less, but be approx same apparent volume.

Krazy stuff!!
