Wife out of town Bart?

A lot of self-assisting this morning.

There are a lot of guitarists that are awesome that no one has mentioned. Here are a few of the ones I respect quite a lot:

Yngwie Malmsteen
Paul Gilbert
Alex Skolnick
Nuno Bettencourt
Albert Collins

and how can you not mention Tony Iommi? He wrote every single good metal riff there will ever be Talking about classic intros to songs, it's pretty hard to ignore Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or Iron Man, or Paranoid.

Oh, and no one mentioned Marty Friedman, from Megadeth. And while he may not be one of the best, Chris Poland, Megadeth's early guitarist, certainly rocked out on some albums like "Peace Sells, but Who's Buying?"

I met Buddy Guy last year in Chicago at his club, very nice guy (no pun intended) and one of the all-time influential guitarist to many of our heroes listed here

PS. I saw Genesis last night in New Jersey, they put on a great show, Phil can still bang the drums and sing his butt off

Genesis is performing? in Jersey??? Damn, wifee and me would have driven for that.

How about a slightly different list of guitarists? Guitarists who reinvented how to play guitar or created whole new sound options with guitar? (bass counts too) I'll start it with:

-Hendrix
-Tom Morello
-Les Claypool
-Eddie Van Halen

Most amazing set of fingers I ever saw in action: Dweezil Zappa. Man probably learned to play before he could talk.

Yeah, they played Giants Stadium, it was tremendous!

1) Bob Weir (although not a lead guitarist he definitely created a style all his own)
2)Phil Lesh (his style of Bass is so different, it's not a typical backing rhythm with the drums but rather Thunder and adds so much traction to the songs, we use to call them Phil Bombs, when he would hit such a low note that the Earth would quake)
3) John Cipollina from Quicksliver Messenger Service (very unique, finger picked everything)

There is a Dutch guitarist named Jan Ackerman (sp) who is incredible.

People need to separate popular with great and the list will change drastically.

I don't know that it counts as reinventing guitar playing, but another really unique player is Django Reinhardt.

Techreef I believe he's considered on of the great jazz guitarist.

Another non-rocker would be Andres Segovia.

The truth can now be told: BigSkyBart is in fact the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Yes, indeed.

Fastest player I have ever seen. If guitar playing were a sport, this guy would be A-Rod.

I can play nearly every ACDC song, Crazy Train, many Led Zep songs, but his skill is so beyond mine, it makes me want to quit playing.
All I can do is laugh. It really is funny in a way.

Pre two broken wrists I could nail the solo to stairway pretty good but I can't even think as fast as that guy is playing.
