by the way, does anybody know how a maxi-jet workes in a multicontroler?
Maxi jets work great on wavemakers/controllers in their standard configuration. Once you modify them into a prop pump they don't do well on wavemakers.

Not built for it. The impeller turns in opposite directions when it restarts. You have to put a little tab on the housing you build to "kick" it back in the other direction. Too much of this creates a good bit of wear and tear. Mine tend to not go ij the right direction on restart sometimes anyway.....maybe I haven't built them that well.
Here is the original thread on them. It's very long but maybe you can some tips there:

Thanks I will look at it when I start converting them!
How do you mix something to hold them in place?
The original sucker won't work after it has been changed.

You can use a magnet of some sort to hold them....like an old algae cleaner.

Great build! I am also building my own tank. 58L x 40W x 20D. Little over 200 gallons. I am stuck at this point tho. I can't find silicone strong enough to silicone the glass? Can you help me out and point me to where you got yours from?

jebb I will figure something out!
I read a little in the Maxi jet mod thread it's pretty cool thanks!

ambulldog615

thanks!
I got mine from a local petshop, I have never thought about the strenght of the silicone just the thikness! I use a a-measure,
all welders ought to know it or something similar, it is used to measure the thikness of the welding.
When I made the 250.gal. I used a-10mm
I would not worry to much about the srenght just clean the glass carefully with acinton and make sure ther is no bubbles in the silicone.
good luck with the making, if you put op a thred about it I would
like to see it and if ther is anything else i can help you with just ask!

thread to my build so far.

I really hate putting links to my stuff on other peoples threads. I feel like I'm trying to hi-jack it.
But since you asked and I would like to show you what I have done so far.
link to my build so far

I asked about the strength just cause some one told me( i think the glass shop) that silicon only has a pound per square in of 10? And that to use a type of rtv silicon?so thats what I have been trying to look for.

No you are not hi-jacking my thred, I like to see what other people are doing.
I like what you have done so far, my girlfriend says you started from the right end!

You do need silicone that is fish safe (acid free), but silicone is just silicone it is all probably very similar in strength, just put a-10mm and you will be good to go.
plus a 30gal. is about average start aquarium for freshwater, so are you sure it's not ment that 1 tube is enough for a 30gal tank?

Man now you got me second guessing how I read the discription now? I'll have it on my mind all night till I get home from work and get to re read the package again.
Beasides that, how do you like the black silicone? Better than the clear? I been debating that decision too.

Lol sorry about that!
I like the black!!!!
The transparent will turn pale blue and shabby in time,
but the black will make a nice frame around your tank...
