I didn't calculate anything. I just decided to try it. I built my system while recovering from a stroke, so not a whole lot of calculating went into it. I read a lot before making that decision though, and a few people on RC felt it was doable. Plus I had seen tanks lit with 1K lamps at a couple LFS.

can you see light shifting/moving when viewing the display or is it imperceptible? would you do it any differently now?

yes, you can see the light shifting. It actaully looks more real. I don't know how others perceive it though. The only person I have talked with extensively about the lighting is Sherman, and he has always felt that is was a superior method of lighting a tank.

That's the way most of the coral farms light their vats also. I know ORA does, I've seen their setup.

Storm King!!!!! Woo Hoo!!! Hey I got my amp and cap in this morning. The subs are on the UPS truck and en route. I just finished pulling out the old amp and sub and getting started on the new. Haha, I've been going over the numbers and I think I may have over done it a bit. (YEAH RIGHT!)

so how does one calculate mh requirements for a given tank based on the mover system? would you venture to guess what the ratio is to a static system?
in other words, if one needed say 2000 watts of mh's for a standard fixed light rack, how much less wattage would be needed on a mover? half?

no way to know. I am sure Sanjay could give you some insite though. You have to look at tank dimensions too to see if you can get enough spread.

Hey Jonathan, I really hate how it gets dark around here at 4:00 pm. When you left I thought it was like 7:00pm! Anyhow, sorry your fish didn't make it. I think you are giving them good advise to get out from under the tank.

well at least it didn't say "flood zone" "beware of flood" "owner has rabies" "this way in no way out"

flood zone wouldn't even be funny considering how many times I have actually flooded the tank room. I have honestly lost count, but I know I had to buy a new shop-vac because the old one rusted out.

couple months ago I installed a new pan world 250 pressure pump as my return, went to bed and woke up with about 50 gallons of saltwater sprayed all over the equipment room, the output line came loose from the pump, thanks to my great installation job, that was memorable, I also have too many to count

along with the saltwater spray a short was created and burned up the wall outlet tripping the circuit breaker, the entire receptacle and drywall around it was black, easily could have started a house fire as we were sleeping
