It won't be that hard I have a plan!
My husband is laughing at me now! I said don't worry honey, I'll take care of it! Really, I will purchase a large Rubbermaid tote, maybe 50g, take out another 35g, store it. rearrange the rock, let the tank settle, then add the livestock back. what do you think?

When I set up my 90g in October 2006 I didn't touch it for nearly a year, until we moved to a new city September 1st 2007. Now I've got all the rock in place at the new apartment, and it's there to stay - I don't like rearranging the rockwork unless it's absolutely necessary. Fish develop territories, corals start to grow onto new rocks, and it just disrupts things so much to move the live rock around. Not to mention that I inevitably get stung or bitten by something every time I pick up a rock
This was the old rockwork (December '06): This is the new layout (September '07) - we lost a lot of corals in the move (due to a trucking delay); you can see we have about as much as we had a year ago when we started this tank. Hopefully we'll be back up and running soon.

Awesome tank, Thanks for your thoughts! We have only rearrange 1 time since our first set up. So I'm ready to make some room so we can add some more coral.

Thanks. Awesome tank pictures. If I don't rearrange the tank, I won't be able to add more coral! So, who side are you on wife or husband? I have to count! don't say the husband! he is gaining!

I think yours looks great edandsandy! My current setup has been running since March and I've changed mine 4 or 5 times. I like what I have now though.

I will add mine to the show and tell of rockscaping. I just updated my main tank the other day to make adjustments for corals I moved from my pico, which then changed my pico.

I think your LFS has given you a bit of a rock wall or 'fruit stand' design; not a look I'm particularly fond of, and one that's easy to get bored of. You want your tank to be something you love to look at, so this time I'll vote for rearranging and say this: get everything moved around into a shape that pleases you, and the corals. If you're left with more real estate for additional corals, great - if not, just let the ones you have grow. See if you can make the shape of the rockwork more varied in height and width (front to back). Create little caves, brighter and darker spots, ledges... you'll like the more natural look, and your fish and corals will appreciate the variations as well. One interesting thing I discovered after our move - when you rearrange a tank after corals have had a year to settle in and grow, you end up inadvertently fragging things. Rather than a single zoa colony, you end up with a larger colony and two or three little groups of zoas in other parts of the tank. Instead of one big leather, you might end up with two smaller ones at opposite ends of the tank. It makes for a more natural looking environment IMO - in nature, corals grow in, over, and around each other; they don't line up single file with equal distances between them!

ACBlinky,
Thanks for the advise. I agree moving the tank around is not a good idea. but it does look like a fruit stand. I too want to have different levels, cliffs, caves and not the straight lines we have now. hyperfocal, I like the looks of things. What are you fragging?

ive noticed aquascaping is as important as anything else in this hobby.just changing a few things around can have a dramatic effect.its not going to eliminate nutrients, make your corals grow faster,or prolong the life expectancy of your fish, but if you love looking at your tank your more likely to take better care of it.
