Not much for corals yet but here's what I've settled on. It's hard to see from this lousy picture but it's completly off the back of the tank.

I agree with all those who said to have as few spaces touching the bottom as possible. It also helps to no have any rock leaning against walls (back included). Looks closely at my pic - where the rock meets the sand - few contact points supporting the rest of the structure. On the right side, behind the GSP on the sand, is all open underneath (cant see well in the picture). I feel this is very important for good flow and removal of wastes and detritus.

Here's the left side of my tank (from the front):

There used to be an opening in the rock to the right of the red monti...but it has since been "closed in" by a green monti and a green elkhorn...

Here's the right side (from the front):

Alghough you can't see it from this angle..there is a tunnel in the middle of the rock that runs from front to back.

None of the rock touches the front or back glass. Also, most of the rocks are held off the bottom slightly with 1/2" acrylic rods inserted into the bottom of the rocks.

Here is my 120. No rocks touching the glass which makes for easier cleaning. Lots of open area for coral growth and fish swimming.

IMO, the #1 requirement for a BB tank is that the rockwork is open and does not allow detritus to collect underneath the rocks. I tried a few different designs and finally settled on islands supported by 2-3" tall acrylic rod legs.

After the tank grows in, you don't even notice the legs anymore:

I'm in the process of a 125 BB build and plan on drilling rocks and installing acrylic rods to support them of the bottom. You hardly notice the rods at all.

I really have to say this turned out to be a great thread, thank you so much for posting pics guys and taking the time. Never realized how hard it is to visualize something "outside the box" until you see other people's tanks. After going through all these pictures I have redo my whole aquascape, I like it so much better now, looks very clean and much more flow than before. I will post some pictures sometime this week. Thanks again everyone, gorgeous tanks by the way!

New pictures of my single-rock Formosa-Forest. Colors still a bit dull, but I can say I beat the AEFW (at least, till this day)

Leonardo,

Do you have a build log or thread dedicated to your tank around here anywhere? It truly is inspiring. I have to admit, I spent two hours last friday night removing most of my rock to try to get my tank to look similar, but it just looked empty and the fish had nowhere to hide or sleep. I spent another two hours putting it all back I guess I need some bigger corals. I would like to know how the tank progressed, etc. Did you start out with more rock and remove it as the corals grow, or did it just look really empty for a few years?

Haha, sounds like a lot of work
I started with this one rock and was fortunate to buy the large centrepiece coral from a fellow reefer. I waited for several months till I added livestock. Tank is a bit over one year old now.

I will make some time this weekend to make a thread about my tank.

Thanks for the compliment, and nice tanks everyone, keep on posting
